Coverage by country

A country count is a claim about breadth, and breadth is the one thing it does not measure. This is the breakdown behind it: every country holding at least one of the families a corporate inventory actually needs, scored against all of them.

152 countries · 5 complete · 32 partial · 115 minimal

152 countries hold at least one of the 13 families a corporate inventory normally needs, and are scored against all of them here. Read the bands before the count — and read the thresholds before the bands. “Complete” here means ten or more of 13, not all 13: three countries hold every family. A country appearing in this table is not a country you can finish an inventory in.

115 Minimal Fewer than four families of 13. Most hold no location-based grid factor at all.
32 Partial Four to nine families of 13. Check the row before relying on it.
5 Complete Ten or more families of 13. Three countries hold every family — 13 of 13.

A filled dot means at least one factor exists in that family for that country; it is not a claim about depth. Absence here is not the same as absence in the world — where we know why a gap exists, it is recorded and classified in the absence register. The same scoring is served as data at /v1/coverage.

What a score of 13 actually means

The thirteen families are the ones a corporate greenhouse-gas inventory normally has to fill: grid electricity, market-based electricity, transmission and distribution losses, stationary fuel, mobile combustion, well-to-tank, district heat and steam, business travel, employee commuting, hotel stays, waste, water, and spend-based screening.

A filled dot means at least one factor exists in that family for that country. It is deliberately not a depth measure — a country with a single national grid figure scores the same on that family as one with per-subregion values, because the question this table answers is “is there anything here at all”, and that is the question that decides whether you can start.

Why most countries are grid-only

Because that is what the world publishes. National statistical offices and energy regulators produce electricity intensities almost everywhere; almost nobody publishes national per-passenger-kilometre business travel factors, and hotel and water factors are rarer still. The pattern in this table is mostly a map of what governments choose to measure, not of what we have got round to ingesting.

Where we know which of the two it is, the gap is recorded and classified in the absence register — whether no publisher issues it anywhere, a named publisher exists and it is our backlog, or we found it and declined.
