Setting a target 5
What a credible commitment actually commits you to.
Net ZeroNet zero balances residual emissions with permanent removals - but only after a 90%+ cut across Scopes 1, 2…Science-Based Targets (SBTi)Science-based targets tie corporate emission cuts to 1.5C - about 4.2% a year on Scopes 1 and 2…Carbon NeutralityCarbon neutrality is a net-balance claim: measure your footprint and cancel it with credits. A weaker bar…Paris AgreementThe Paris Agreement is the 2015 UN climate treaty to hold global warming well below 2°C and pursue 1.5°C…Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)A Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) is a country's self-set climate pledge under the Paris Agreement…

Mitigation HierarchyMitigation hierarchy: the order of climate action — avoid, reduce, substitute, then neutralise the residual…AbatementAbatement: reducing emissions at the source — the measures, ranked by marginal abatement cost (some…DecarbonizationDecarbonization: cutting greenhouse-gas emissions at the source — the levers, deep decarbonization for net…Transition PlanClimate transition plan: the time-bound strategy — levers, capital, governance — a company uses to reach its…
What is left over 3
The part a target cannot abate, and the budget it has to fit inside.
Residual EmissionsResidual emissions: the emissions left after maximal abatement at the net-zero target year, which must be…Gross vs Net EmissionsGross emissions are the total before subtraction; net subtracts removals and offsets. Only cutting gross…Carbon BudgetCarbon budget: the finite cumulative CO₂ the world can emit for a 1.5°C limit — the remaining budget, why it…
